Club Member Team Profiles

TEAM OTIS  (aka O-Dog, T.O.W.M.)

 

Erika and Otis are from Denver, CO.  Otis was brought home as a 9 week-old pup of a friendly stray Steamboat farm dog that someone had brought home and later found out was pregnant.  The mom was a total mutt and dad was unknown!  Erika thinks some Lab and Shepherd are in there somewhere, but she doesn't really know for sure.

They started dock jumping late in the 2010 season and have proudly accomplished a National Master Title in Big Air already!  Otis's personal best in Big Air is 24'6",  Speed Retrieve 6.381, and EV 6'2" for a top Iron Dog score of 2924.16.  We are working toward titles in SR, EV and ID. Erika and Otis are enthusiastic club members and are always willing to take time to help those new to the sport.  Erika is a tireless promoter of RMDD!

Away from the dock Otis enjoys sun naps, lounging around and trips to "The Beach" at A-Basin Ski Resort.  Erika is Rocky Mountain DockDogs Club Secretary/Treasurer and serves on the Event Committee.

TEAM HARLEY  (aka Launch Code HP1, Pooch, Cheater-Cheater-Biscuit-Eater)

Ken and Harley are from Parker, CO.  Harley is an 8 year-old Yellow Lab who was adopted from a shelter when he was about 9 months old.  He was the goofy, tail-wagging dog in the shelter back then and he has that same happy-go-lucky attitude now!  Harley loves to be the center of attention and runs up to the edge of the dock before he jumps to scan the crowd and make sure everyone is watching him!  He used to be a "cheater" and would sometimes try to jump from the dock to the ramp, and then to the pool.  In fact, the panel that divides the dock and the ramp is nicknamed The Cheater Panel in his honor!

 

Ken and Harley started dock jumping in the Spring of 2008 at the Denver Pet Expo.  Harley has earned his Senior Title in Big Air (his PB is 19'10") and an Express Title in Speed Retrieve.

Harley's favorite pastimes when he isn't dock jumping are chasing squirrels, eating and barking.

TEAM KASEY  (aka Tidal Wave, the Screamin' Wookie)
Kasey and Tracy are from Parker, CO.  Kasey is a 7 year-old mixed-breed mutt (she just happens to look like a Black Lab) who was adopted in 2004.  She has been a retrieving maniac from Day One and nothing will divert her attention from the object of her desire (usually her favorite red ball or her black & white bumper).  She is known for her squeals of excitement (Wookie-style) while waiting her turn to jump and even sang along with the National Anthem before a Finals competition which gave everyone a good laugh!

Tracy and Kasey got involved with DockDogs in 2008 and are founding members of Rocky Mountain DockDogs.  Kasey has her Senior Title in Big Air and is half-way to her Master Title (her PB is 21'6"), has earned an Express Title in Speed Retrieve and a PB in Extreme Vertical of 5'4". 

When she isn't dragging Tracy to the dock or retrieving, Kasey enjoys sleeping on the couch and getting belly rubs.  Tracy is Rocky Mountain DockDogs Administrative Board Member and heads up the Sponsorship Committee.

TEAM DIAMOND (aka Team Black Diamond)

Sue and Diamond are from Palmer Lake, CO.  Sue and her husband Clarke got Diamond as a puppy just before Christmas in 2001.  She was a handful as a youngster so Sue went through agility training with her but Diamond liked the treats better than the course work!  So Clarke tried Diamond at bird hunting, but she did not like gunfire. They then bred her to great bird-dog named Tucker. Their other dog Raven is Diamond's daughter and came from the first litter (they had 2 litters of pups, which was a blast!).

 

Sue got involved with Dock Dogs in 2006 at Cabela's in Sidney, NE. Diamond did a lot of barking back then, followed by a submarine dive off the dock!  She would not jump into a DockDog pool again for 3 years! But Raven loved it, so they returned to Cabela's again, and kept trying to get Diamond to jump. She loves the water and retrieving so Sue did not give up.  They finally got her to jump and eventually Diamond learned to love it!  Sue and Clarke's son Dylan handled her for some years, but now it's mom's turn and she loves it as much as Diamond!

Diamond is a Veteran dog who has earned her NoviceTitle in Big Air and a personal best jump of just over 12'. She is not too interested in Speed Retrieve or Extreme Vertical.  Sue says that they have met the most amazing group of animal-loving friends in DockDogs.  Sue and Clarke love to camp at DockDog competitions and share involvement in a fun sport that people and dogs both love - plus they help collect and donate to Chase Away K-9 Cancer. What an excellent way to spend your free time!      

         

    

TEAM RILEY (aka Riley Bear)
Brenda and Riley are from Denver, CO.  Riley is 5 years old and was rescued in 2005 when someone dumped him out of their car onto the highway near Conifer to fend for himself.  Their negligence was Brenda's gain and he's been an awesome mama's boy since day one! 

Riley loves going to the lakes and indoor pool so much that Brenda got involved with Rocky Mountain DockDogs in the summer of 2010.  Riley is known for being highly driven when it's time to jump and will pull and bark until it's his turn (of course, he feels every turn is his!).   One of the announcers called him a "Burly Dog" with his deep chest and stocky build - but he still got his Junior Title and has a personal best of 14' 11" in Big Air!
When he's not following Brenda from room to room he is infatuated with water and fetching and loves his stuffed animals and car rides.  Brenda is a Rocky Mountain DockDogs Board Member who is on the Sponsorship Committee.

 

TEAM RAVEN (aka Team Iron Maiden)

Clark Coons and Raven are from Palmer Lake, CO and have been teamed up and competing in DockDogs  since 2007.  Raven actually started DockDogs in 2006 with Sue Coons as her handler and placed 8^th with 14’8” in their first ever event at a Cabela's side walk sale in Nebraska. Clarke was busy buying hunting stuff and trying to get Diamond into the pool.

 

A year later they returned to Cabela's where Sue and Clarke alternated back and fourth with Diamond (mom) and Raven (daughter) in waves. As luck would have it Clarke got a lucky throw that put them in the finals and Sue out. The team of Clarke and Raven was born. Raven loves  pulling you to the dock and anything to do with “fetch”. She has worked her way up to a Big Air Elite Title, Speed Retrieve Turbo Title, and EV Top Gun Title.  Raven received her first 1^st Place in New Mexico on Sept 26^th 2009 (Sue's birthday) and the Team IRON MAIDEN was born. When not on the dock - Raven will chase bumpers or hunt the IRONDOG score , as a tireless and loving companion.  Clarke is a Rocky Mountain DockDogs Board Member and heads up the Equipment Committee.

TEAM SAGE & TEAM MEADOW  (aka Team Chessies on the Dock!)
Shari, Meadow and Sage just recently relocated from St. Clair, Michigan to Parker, Colorado. Meadow and Sage are Chesapeake Bay Retrievers who began dock jumping in 2007. They have traveled all over the country competing in all disciplines within the sport. 

 

Meadow loves everything about dock jumping. She has appeared on ESPN, Versus and the Outdoor Channel. Meadow has a DD personal best of 23’. She has achieved a height of 7’ in EV more than 10 times (which is amazing for a female) and has a speed retrieve best of 7.347. She also competes in Iron Dog and has a huge personality both on and off of the dock. Meadow earned an invite to the 2010 Dock Dog Dogs and Logs World Championship in Salem, Oregon. She also hopped on a plane this year to go to the David Letterman Show with a couple of her other Chessie friends. If you watch this team closely you will see that Shari and Meadow always have a handshake on the dock before Meadow’s jump.

 

Sage (Irish’s Beyond Measure) is the goofball of the team. Sage has a Senior Title in Big Air and is more driven in Speed Retrieve than any other discipline. She has a personal best of 7.569 in SR and took 3rd this year in her division at the 2010 Nationals. Sage no longer competes in EV, a game she definitely loves, due to an incidental finding of diskospondylosis. She is extremely bumper and bird driven.
